Fly on a cherryA short presentation on Spotted Wing Drosophila, Drosophila suzukii, which is a new pest to North America (2008).  It is a new pest to many soft-bodied fruit, such as cherries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and blueberries.  If you think you may have Spotted Wing Drosophila in your crop, be sure to contact me and send a sample if possible.

mendeleyMendeley is a free reference manager which also does a great job at storing your library of scientific journals, papers, books, etc. It also has a built-in social networking tool, allowing you to share papers with colleagues.  Originally designed for a group of second year population ecology students, this presentation is a short tutorial on installation and setup.  Mendeley can be downloaded from here.

Snapshot:

A new invasive scale of crape myrtles has recently been detected.  Current evidences suggest that the species is Eriococcus lagerostroemia, a native to the plant host to Lagerostroemia sp., also found in China, Japan, Korea, India, Mongolia, South Korea and United Kingdom.
